Quick and Easy Donuts

Donuts are everywhere. Have you ever wondered who invented this yummy feast? Let’s get to know some interesting facts about this creamy, crispy and mouthwatering food. A ship captain’s mother, Elizabeth Gregory, sailing through New England, made deep-fried dough and put some nuts in the center so the dough would cook. Hence the creation of your soft and tender dough-nut.

Donuts are delicious and healthy at the same time. Its creamy and crispy dough would melt in your mouth, sweetness inside the nicely cooked dough would definitely melt your heart and satisfy your taste buds.

Ingredients
  • 1 egg
  • 3/8 cup milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup sugar for dusting
  • 1 quart oil for deep frying
  • 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • Chocolate chips
  • Sprinkles
Directions

Step One:
In a glass bowl, pour the milk into it and add vinegar. Mix well for few minutes until thick.

Step Two:
In another bowl, add and mix the shortening and sugar until smooth. Add beaten egg and vanilla until smoothly blended. Add the remaining items flour, baking soda, salt, mixture of milk and vinegar and knead until dough feels smooth and elastic.

Step Three:
Flour a flat surface and roll the dough out to 1/3 inch thick. Using a cutter, cut into donuts shape and Let it rest for about 5 to 10 minutes.

Step Four:
In a large pan heat the oil to between 360 and 375 degrees. Carefully place in pre heated oil taking care not to not let the oil splatter. Fry the donuts, two or three at a time, in the oil 2 to 3 minutes or until they are golden brown, turning once.

Step Five:
When ready remove from hot oil allowing excess oil to drain back into the pan and place on paper towel to avoid a greasy donut.

Step Six:
Dust with sugar while they are still warm
OR
Make chocolate glaze by melting the chocolate chips.
Place them in a bowl and melt it in the microwave for 30 seconds.
Allow melted chocolate to cool for 5 minutes.
Dip the donuts into the chocolate glaze from one side.
Cover with sprinkles if desired.
Let them cool for a few minutes and serve.
